## LESSON TWO

A, Minims

Looking at the picture above you can see that the first two bars contain G semi-breves as they are on the second line up, but the next two are on the space above. This note is and A. If you look at the fingering chart you will see that to move from G to A you simply lift the third finger of your left hand.

So all 3 fingers, blow, counting to 4, blow again counting to 4, lift your 3rd finger and blow, counting to 4 and blow again counting to 4.

So all 3 fingers, blow, counting to 4, blow again counting to 4, lift your 3rd finger and blow, counting to 4 and blow again counting to 4.

Now to learn a new length of note. Have a look at the music above. You will see that there are two notes in each bar. These notes are like semi-breves but they have vertical line attached to them. This shows they are minims. Two beat notes. As the time signature is 4 beats in a bar then each bar contains two minims of two beats each.

The pitch of the notes is as before, just G and A. So play a G count only to 2, blow again counting to 2. Repeat for the next bar. Then play an A count to 2, blow again coutning to 2 and repeat for the next bar.

This exercise as you can see is a mixture of semi-breves and minims. So play G and count to 4, blow and count to 2, and again for a count of 2. Then play A and count to 4, blow and count to 2 and again for a count of 2.

You have now learnt a new pitch of note A and a new length of note, a minim so that is the end of Lesson Two. Repeat the lesson unitl you are comfortable with it and then go on to Lesson Three when you are ready.
