NATURAL MINOR SCALES
This type of minor scale are called Natural Minor Scales (or alternatively the Aeolian Scale) to distinguish them from Melodic Minor Scales and Harmonic Minor Scales. The basic pattern for this type of minor scale is Tone Semitone Tone Tone Semitone Tone Tone. So if for example you start on A you will find that you end up with all natural notes and an A minor scale of A B C D E F G A. Because this is a key with all natural notes in the same way as C major these two scales are said to be related to each other.
If you know the major scale and wish to know its related minor scale you count to the 6th note of the major scale and that note is the relative minor. So in the scale of C which is C D E F G A B C the sixth note is A and A Minor is the related scale to C Major.
If you know the minor key and wish to know its related major key then it is the third note of the scale. So A minor is A B C D E F G A and the third note is C so C Major is the related key to A Minor.
Here are all the Natural Minor Scales written out with all the sharps and flats, plus a note of the related major scale and the key signature that it will be written in.
